The Right Noodle

Every year just before Christmas we have a family party with my husband's side of the family. My assignment is usually soup. I was contemplating what kind of soup I should do this year. Should I bring the traditional Taco Soup or branch out to a different kind like Chicken Double Noodle.

I decided to consult one of my sons about it. My oldest son (the construction management grad.) explained to me, "It is just like when you are building something. You have to use the tool or materials for the job mom!" "If you have to make the Chicken Noodle don't use the bow-tie noodles in it. You have to go to the store and get the noodles that are especially for soup. Or at least buy the long ones." "You have to use the right noodle for the job Mom!"

Until that moment I had been totally happy using my favorite bow-tie noodles for everything. Did I listen and really take his advise to heart?

A day or two later Oldest Son's Wife asked me to make a hat for Only Granddaughter. I was more than happy and actually excited to start the job. I had the perfect hat pattern. I headed up to the knitting store to buy some yarn for the job.



When I got to the yarn store the yarn the pattern called for was $20, imported merino wool and not machine washable. For a two year old, I thought that was not a good choice. The lady talked me into some self striping yarn that she thought would work just fine.



After many hours of knitting and more hours of pulling out I ask you--Does this look like the right noodle for the job?

A day or so later I decided to tackle a job I had been avoiding for too long. Shred a bunch of old bank statements to make room in the desk drawer. I had been collecting the statement since 2003 and knew it would be a time consuming job! I set out with the statements in hand and my little home office shredder to do the job.



I figured it would take about 10 times of filling the shredder in order to finish the whole stack of papers. It was going along GREAT! Why let a little bit of a funny electrical burning smell slow you down. Again....not the right noodle for the job.

Then Firefighter Husband has a great idea.....lets burn the statements. This will be faster, better, and of course more fun.



In a potato can, in the driveway, on a windy day. (not to mention the blowing sparks and the smoke that we are not supposed to blog about) Not the right noodle for the job.

Happy ending to the story...We finally learned our lesson. We took the papers to Bada and Bumpy's and used the industrial shredder(the right noodle). It only took me about 30 min to do the job and it came with snacks and treats.

I went back to the yarn store and got not the exact noodle for the job, but a good noodle and made a hat that I think is cute.

So remember.... "Always use the right noodle for the job"

Frustrated with blogging!

OK here is the deal...All I wanted to do is add a slideshow to the sidebar of this stupid blog. After 1 hour of messing with it, the only thing I can do is post it. I guess that will have to do until I can figure it out. I always think of myself as pretty computer savy. I guess my kids are right. I haven't got a clue!

My sister is giving my parents a digital frame for Christmas and asked me to look through my pictures and get a few to put on the frame. I didn't have as much time as I wanted to look through all my pictures, but I found some cute old ones of our boys. I thought people might want to view them. (the reason for the frustrating slide show)

I woke up early today to get a few things done before the big storm hits. I don't know if shopping for Christmas early is a good idea. This close to Christmas you feel like you need to shop some more and buy extra things. Does that happen to you?

Harder than it looks

This is harder than it looks. I can not get this program to load the pictures in the order I want them in. Also the pictures look too small. I am going to have to work on this some more.

Starting a Blog!

My friend Elise and I were talking on the phone tonight about blogs. She has started one and it inspired me to do the same. Blogs intimidate me a little. I like to tell stories with pictures not so much with words. I guess it is o.k. to blog a little and post pictures a lot!

We mostly wanted to share pictures of our cute, smart, and adorable grandkids! I decided to take Madi to do a little photo shot a couple of weeks ago to Sugarhouse Park. It is amazing I got as many good pictures as I did because she was more interested in "play with kids gamma"

I love the picture of her hanging from the bar. When she was a tiny baby Scott would love to show us how strong she was. If he took hold of her hands she would hold on and hang for a long time.
